Leaving Sapporo: A Check List

When you leave Sapporo, please complete the following procedures.

  • Complete all academic procedures at the Academic Affairs Section of your faculty /graduate school.
  • Apply for transcripts and other certificates at the Academic Affairs Section of your faculty / graduate school well in advance.
  • Contact your landlord / management company / dorm manager and complete the necessary procedures to vacate your apartment / dormitory at least one month prior to your departure date.
  • Clean your room thoroughly and take away your belongings from the room. When you dispose of furniture or belongings, abide by Japanese rules of garbage disposal (Refer to the “Garbage Disposal“) .
  • Cancel all contracts of water, electricity and gas, and be sure to pay remaining fees.
  • Submit a notification of moving out at your local post office.
  • Return any books you borrowed to our libraries.
  • Lodge your address with us so that we can contact you as a valued Alumni.
  • Close your bank account.
  • Cancel your national health insurance and complete the payment of the premium.
  • Cancel your fire insurance or others if necessary.
  • Submit a “notification of moving out” at the municipal / ward office.
  • Cancel the contract of your mobile phone and pay any remaining fees.
  • Have your accommodation inspected by your landlord and pay all remaining rent.
  • Submit “Notification of the accepting organization” at the Immigration Bureau.
  • Hand in your Residence Card at the airport.
