In the event a national holiday falls on a Sunday, the following day is declared a national holiday.

Saturdays Sundays and National Holidays

Public offices, banks and a large proportion of companies are generally not in operation.
Department stores and shops are generally open.

Obon – Mid August (August 13-15)

A large proportion of companies and stores are closed.

New Year (December 31 & January 1-3)

Public offices, banks and companies are generally closed.
Some department stores and shops remain open except on January 1.
