Payment of Scholarship

If you are a MEXT Scholarship student, you receive a monthly stipend directly deposited into your bank account. To receive the scholarship, you need to have a bank account and sign the enrollment confirmation sheet as specified below.

Opening a Bank Account

In order to receive the scholarship payment on schedule, you must open an account at a Yucho Bank (Japan Post Bank) as soon as possible after arrival. Please refer to Banks for further details.

Monthly Enrollment Confirmation

At the beginning of every month, you are required to sign the enrollment confirmation sheet at the Academic Affairs Section of your faculty / graduate school. The stipend is usually paid between the 20th and 25th of every month. If you fail to sign in on time, your stipend will be paid the following month.
Please note that during busy periods such as at the beginning of semester, payments of the stipend may be slightly delayed.
Additionally, if you do not sign the enrollment confirmation sheet, or if you are not planning on attending university for at least one day each month, the stipend will not be paid for that month.

¥3,000 per month will be added to the scholarship payment from November to March in the form of a cold-district allowance to cover the hike in cost of heating etc.
